Barbados had a lean first day with just a silver and a solitary bronze medal when the inaugural Union Americana de Natacion (UANA) Swimming Cup Competition started at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex in Florida, on Friday.

Roan Baker, who attends Roosevelt Intermediate School in the United States but trains with Berkeley Aquatic Club, delivered silver in the 13-14 Boys’ 200 metres in the individual medley.

The 15-17 boys also got on the podium, earning a bronze medal in the 200 metres medley relay at the meet, featuring swimmers from Central America, South America and the Caribbean that are in UANA Zones 1 and 2.

Baylor College’s Jack Kirby started with the back stroke, followed by Nkosi Dunwoody doing the breast stroke and Luis Sebastian-Weekes on the butterfly leg before Damon St Prix anchored the team home with free style in a time 1:51:99 minutes.

In the process, the quartet broke the Barbados 200m medley relay record of 2:02.88 minutes which was set at 1993 CARIFTA Championships in Barbados. Sebastian-Weekes was also fourth in the 15-17 Boys’ 200IM with a time of 2:13.97 minutes.

Adia Deane was fifth in the 11-12 Girls’ 400m freestyle with a time 5:04.59 minutes and sixth in the Girls’ 50m freestyle, clocking 29:53 seconds.

Tristan Pragnell (2:21.66) finished seventh in the 13-14 Boys 200 IM.

Pragnell also swam the back stroke leg while teaming up with McCallum Clarke (breaststroke), Baker (butterfly) and Kai Trotman (freestyle) to finish fourth in the 13-14 Boys’ 200m medley relay in 1:58:81 minutes.
