The quality was poor, the slippers were too light and there was a spelling mistake in every word, except for the word Puma, on the labels in the backpacks.
That was the evidence of trademark specialist with Puma, Louis Comvalius, as the fake Puma case brought against OUCH! boutique owner Grenville Ricardo Delpeache began in the Bridgetown Traffic Court yesterday.
Delpeache, of Passage Gardens, Passage Road, St Michael, made legal history last year when he became one of two Swan Street businessmen, along with Rihanna’s uncle Leroy Fitzgerald Daddy I-Roy/De Warrior Brathwaite, to be charged with selling knock-offs of the popular Rihanna Puma line, as well as other items bearing the Puma name.
Delpeache has been charged in connection with 17 pairs of slippers, seven single shoes (those placed on display) and 31 haversacks. The slippers were retailing for $200, while the sneakers had a price tag of $450. The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent Trevor Blackman. (HLE)
