Home port boon

Barbados’ homeporting business from cruise ships at the Bridgetown Port is booming.

More and more ships are spending one or more nights in the port, and chief executive officer of Foster Ince Cruiseworld, Martin Ince, says the increasing number of stay-overs by cruise ships calling at Barbados is translating into more room nights for the island’s hotels, business for taxi operators in the port and restaurants.

“This year, I have seen a tremendous upsurge in the pre- and post-stays in Barbados, a couple of days before the ship is due to leave and when the ship returns,” Ince told the DAILY NATION.

The hotel accommodation, he added, was well distributed, with “a broad cross-section from the very high-end hotels right through to the Intimate Hotels” enjoying the benefits.

“We have had a lot of additional night stayovers with some ships staying over three days, two nights,” Ince said. (GC)
