Residents going as sewage comes

Two residents of Peronne Gap in Worthing, Christ Church, are evacuating the area to escape the ongoing sewage crisis.

Frustrated and fearful for the health of his family, Grady Clarke told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that he, as well as another resident, had reached their limit in dealing with the constant presence of effluent.

Clarke, who has lived in the area for the past 20 years, said he had never seen a situation quite like what had unfolded over the past few years.

He said in years gone by, the area would suffer from flooding due to blocked canals running to the Graeme Hall Swamp and this would sometimes result in a sewage problem. However, in recent times, the stench was so bad and the fear of health implications so real, he added, residents were deciding to move out.

“My grandchildren are here quite often. I said I’m not taking this risk with my grandchildren and I am going to move from here.

“I am forced to move out also because I’m not seeing any ease up and all I’m hearing from politicians is bare foolish talk. Come clean with the people,” he added. (AD)
