And that was why, said Shaquille Hakeem Nicholls, if he had known the person he was propositioning was an under-aged girl, he would never have done so.
Nicholls, 24, of Goodridge Road, The Whim, St Peter, was in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he admitted loitering in Queen’s Park and was suspected of being about to commit sexual assault. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a 12-year-old girl, all in the wee hours of yesterday.
Nicholls told the court he thought the girl was a “young vagrant”.
“I does deal with vagrant women and I thought she was a young vagrant,” he said.
He denied he would ever “physically assault” a schoolgirl or “trouble” one.
“There got nuff women out there to deal with or to trouble [but not] a schoolgirl,” Nicholls said, as he denied he had grabbed the girl. He said he only asked her where she was going.
“What I wouldn’t want for me, I wouldn’t want for anyone else,” he told the court.
Nicholls went on to say he was addicted to cocaine and had been “high” the night. Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant remanded him to HMP Dodds until June 12. The court had heard that police were patrolling the area of the Constitution River Terminal when they saw a 12-year-old girl, who had been reported missing. It was 12:40 a.m.
She was picked up and taken to the station where she told lawmen an unknown man had assaulted her by grabbing her arm and soliciting sex from her in Queen’s Park.
Police investigated and saw Nicholls in Queen’s Park and he was unable to account for his presence there.
