JUSTICE OF APPEAL SANDRA MASON’s appointment as Barbados’ eighth Governor General has been widely applauded.
Shortly after Prime Minister Freundel Stuart made the announcement – through a Barbados Government Information Service release – that the 68-year-old had been chosen for the highest office in the land, people associated with her in various spheres were effusive in praise of her selection.
“She is a wonderful choice for Governor General and I know that she will continue to serve Barbados with every ounce of her ability as expected,” Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson told the MIDWEEK NATION of the woman who rose from humble beginnings in East Point, St Philip.
He described her as “a very long-serving member of the Public Service who had given distinguished service both in the diplomatic corps and in the judiciary”.
He said she started her judicial service as a magistrate, went on to be a High Court judge in St Lucia and had given “years of service” as a Court of Appeal judge in Barbados. (GC)
