The trade union movement is in mourning following the passing of Dennis Clarke, the former General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

Clarke, a stalwart in the fight for workers’ rights, passed away on Thursday, leaving behind a legacy of tireless advocacy and dedication to improving the lives of public sector employees.

Clarke’s journey as a trade unionist began in the early 1970s when he joined the NUPW. His commitment to the cause of workers’ rights quickly became evident, and he rose through the ranks to become one of the most influential figures in the organization.

The late trade unionist served as General Secretary from 2007 to 2014, during which he was instrumental in several landmark negotiations and initiatives that greatly benefited public workers. (AL)
