‘Arrogance destroying our children’

The arrogance of some people is destroying the lives of children who should be embraced regardless of their backgrounds, reminded Reverend Canon Peter Haynes as he touched on the gun violence in which two children were caught in the crossfire recently.

The Rector of the St Peter’s Parish Church was speaking on Sunday at the start of Founders’ Week as the Alexandra School prepared to mark its 130th anniversary today under the theme Rebuilding with Purpose.

Educators and staff of the school were joined by the members of the Alexandra School Alumni Association for the special service to celebrate the institution which was born out of a desire to provide for the community and unite the various backgrounds.

Haynes mentioned that the six-year-old child who had been injured in the September 15 shooting in which Shakori Forde of Lower Carlton, St James, died had attended the earlier service and that situation was an example of the pain and suffering of some children in spite of child justice legislation and agencies set up for them.
