A Flash-Flood Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for the northern and central districts of Barbados.

The Barbados Meteorological Services reports that localized weather activity is prevalent across the island due to a light wind regime, leading to the potential for severe thunderstorms.

Rainfall accumulation is expected to range from 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm), which may result in rapid flooding in affected areas. The Flash Flood Warning indicates that flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall could occur within a short period of time, generally less than six hours.

Lightning activity is also a concern, with strikes potentially threatening power utility infrastructure and leading to outages.

Residents are reminded that lightning can be life-threatening, and precautions should be taken to ensure safety.

The Flash Flood Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Watch were both issued at 12:15 p.m. and will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. today or sooner if warranted.
