“Hold on to your tickets.”
That’s the advice from officials of the Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters (BADD) to racing fans after rain washed out the recently-held Launch Control 4.2 at Bushy Park.
Drag racing officials were hoping for dry weather, but after only 12 runs the rain came and brought a premature end to the event, which had attracted a record 54 entries.
BADD chairman Jason Downey said that the weather forecast was for rain but organisers never thought that it would have been so much and so heavy.
“Rain had brought the end to the previous event and the drivers had called on the committee of management to hold another event to make up for all the time, effort and energy of getting their cars ready and then losing the opportunity to race,” he said.
Patrons have been advised to hold on to their tickets for free entry to the first event of the new season, which will start in March.
“We owe to it to our fans who had braved the rain on two occasions and is our way of saying thanks to all of them,” Downey said.
“We had sent out invitations to all members of the Barbados Motoring Federation and the entry fee had been waived for the event,” he said, adding that it would have been a very competitive event.
Downey praised the fans as well as all the drivers, including new champion Dan Johnson, who drove a Westfield Megawatt. (TT)
