While Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler sees nothing sinister in appointing the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to the National Insurance Board, Opposition Member of Parliament Kerrie Symmonds sees it as an attempt to increase the level of Government influence and its representatives on the board.
The St James Central MP levelled this criticism against the Government in the House of Assembly yesterday, shortly after Sinckler introduced the second reading of the National Insurance and Social Security (Amendment) (NO) Bill.
Symmonds told Parliament that it was a matter with which the Opposition felt some discomfort.
However, Sinckler said his Government was addressing an anomaly by placing the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Labour on the National Insurance Board. (NC)
