EMBATTLED PRESIDENT of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU), Mary Redman, appears to have done another about-turn.
On the eve of school going on recess for the Christmas holidays, the DAILY NATION has learnt that Redman, who is currently on pre-retirement leave and was set to retire from the teaching service on December 31, has changed her mind and has sent a letter to the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, June Chandler, advising her of such.
There is a letter dated November 24, 2017, purporting to be the one sent by Redman circulating on social media, which states that she will no longer be retiring effective January 1, 2017. While the date given in the letter is incorrect, reliable sources have confirmed that Redman has, in fact, indicated she wants to continue in the service, which she entered in 1980.
If the change of heart comes to pass, it will be the second time within the last month that Redman has recanted on a decision she took. (YB)
