Artists, diplomats and lovers of art were recently treated to a rare exhibition showcasing the work of Canadian and Barbadian artists, compliments of the Canadian High Commission.
High Commissioner Marie Legault said the fine collection of paintings on display in the Queen’s Park Gallery at the newly-renovated Queen’s Park House, was “about Canadian and Barbadian artists who have created bridges” between the two countries.
For the gallery’s curator Janice Whittle it was a happy occasion, seeing one of the island’s main art galleries was once again in full operation. Of special note was the work of veteran Barbadian artists such as Virgil Broodhagen, hanging alongside paintings by some of Canada’s best known artists.
The exhibition, entitled Canada et Barbados: The Art of Collaboration, was one of the activities in Canada’s year-long celebration of its 150th anniversary. (GC)
