The Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) is urging Government to better sensitise the public on the implementation of its island-wide vehicle tagging programme.
Noting that there is seemingly too little information on the initiative, AOPT director of communications and public affairs Mark Haynes said greater awareness was needed to bring drivers on board.
“From my stand, I do not think that a lot of people are really on board with it. I guess as the word spreads, people may get au fait to what it means, what they’re required to do and then they may comply with what is required of them,” he told the Sunday Sun yesterday.
According to the Information Unit at the Ministry of Transport and Works, the Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) plans to implement the vehicle tagging programme as part of the Road Traffic Act amendments to be proclaimed.
In addition, the Electronic Vehicle Registration (EVR) system will undergo a name change to Electronic Vehicle Tagging Registration (EVTR) System.
The change aims to clarify the distinction between vehicle ownership registration with BLA and the tagging process that verifies compliance with insurance requirements. (Nation News Desk)
