The sight of the 6ft 5in West Indies fast bowler Wes Hall charging in once drove fear in the hearts of many a batsman around the world.
The cricket legend, who turned 80 on September 12, played 48 Tests for the West Indies between 1958 and 1969, taking 192 Test wickets. His scalps in first class cricket total 546. His opening bowling partnership with another Barbadian cricket legend Charles Griffith was a feature of the strong West Indies teams throughout the 60s.
Sir Wes, who was knighted in 2012, was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s and the West Indies Cricket Hall of Fame.
The world-famous cricketer, who also served as Barbados’ Minister of Tourism in 1987, was at the launch of the Barbados Tourism Product Authority’s I Am Tourism campaign at Olympus Cinemas last week when he met students of the Eden Lodge Primary School. They were excited to be face to face with the cricketing great. (GC)
