No escaping Venom’s bite

Barbados’ best road tennis player Mark “Venom” Griffith moved one position away from battling for his second car in the Monarch Of The Court competition when the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-Operative Credit Union Limited action continued at De Big Rock Arena, Spring Garden, on Saturday night.

Playing with the focus and skills of an undisputed champion, Griffith was sublime in blunting the efforts of a confident Kerry “TC” Francis, defeating him 21-13, 21-16 to romp into another semi-finals. Griffith had claimed the previous edition and car on offer to create prize history in road tennis.

On Saturday night the largest crowd to date was on hand as Francis attempted to rewrite history with a number of crisp attacking strokes, evidencing his intent of rattling Griffith’s defensive game.

However, with an uncanny ability to almost psychically determine the next play from his opponent, Griffith, with remarkable footwork and counterattack, was able to soak up all Francis had to offer. (KB)
