The West Indies cricket heroes of the 1975 Cricket World Cup will be honoured at a gala ceremony to mark the 50thgolden anniversary of the great win. On June 21, 1975, Clive Lloyd was captain when the West Indies beat Australia at Lord’s to win the historic first ever men’s World Cup.
On Monday evening, Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) announced that they will jointly stage the eighth CWI/WIPA Awards Gala, set for Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle. The event, which will be televised across the region, “will celebrate the greatest achievements of West Indies players”.
There were four Barbadians in the 1975 World Cup champion team – Gordon Greenidge, Keith Boyce, Vanburn Holder and Collis King. (PS)
