Barbados made a powerful start to the CAZOVA Under-17 volleyball championship with a straight sets dismissal of arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago boys when the action commenced yesterday morning at the GC Foster College of Physical Education, Kingston, Jamaica.

The Bajans outplayed their opponents particularly in attack and serving to take the opening encounter 25-9, 25-15, 25-17. Coach Elwyn Oxley started with captain Pierre Gill, vice captain, Liam Yearwood, setter
Daniel Reece along with Joshua Ashby, Adrianno Als and Jordan John.

John led the attack well with supporting kills from Yearwood as Reece ran a positive offence. The team continued the dominance when back up setter Relani Crichlow was given a run with CARIFTA athlete Josiah Gill also enjoying his opportunity when he was introduced.

Overall, the team served extremely well with the confident Joshua Ashby blocking just as effectively as he spiked. Division one libero Mykhail Gooding gave a great showing of his passing and defence skill. (KB)
