A LONG-TIME EDUCATOR is backing the use of cellphones in the classroom, but wants strict regulations in place to prohibit their misuse.
“There is a place for cellphones but children will have to be taught that they cannot use the cellphone for sending out messages and that sort of thing. They would have to know that they cannot be communicating during class and not paying attention to the lesson,” said principal of the Metropolitan High School, Oliver Cox.
He was speaking at the school’s Roebuck Street, Bridgetown bookstore, where he received a donation of two books from past student Geurlaine Small.
His comments came months after Minister of Education Ronald Jones announced that students at secondary schools would be able to have their cellphones with them from next month. (TG)
