OPPOSITION LEADER MIA MOTTLEY last night tore into Government’s hosting of the 13th edition of the Caribbean Festival of Creative Arts (CARIFESTA), renaming it ‘CARIFIASCO’ and saying it made her ashamed to be a Barbadian.
In fact, Mottley went so far as to suggest that inter-ministerial fighting within the ranks of the Democratic Labour Party Government was behind a ploy to see CARIFESTA XIII fail.
“So CARIFIASCO, instead of being a bounty for the artists of this country, instead of being an inspiration to others as it should have been – and we have seen some expression of excellence from the people on the Caribbean – this was a boycott of Stephen Lashley,” she charged.
The Opposition Leader was speaking at a meeting of the Barbados Labour Party’s St Michael South Central branch while, simultaneously, Government was throwing a big farewell party for CARIFESTA XIII and handing over the baton to Trinidad, which will be hosting CARIFESTA XIV in 2019. (HLE)
