A DILAPIDATED and uninhabited house at Ceres Land, Grazettes, St Michael, came crashing down yesterday afternoon, making the road impassable.

Residents said the house had been leaning for some time but the passage of Tropical Storm Harvey just over a week ago caused it to lean even more towards the road.

Nikita Wilkinson, who lives nearby, said it belonged to an elderly man who was moved to the Geriatric Hospital some time ago, and had since died. She added that the Ministry of Health had the house earmarked for demolition as residents had expressed concern about it being a breeding grounds for rodents.

While expressing relief that no one was hurt when the house collapsed, she said there were several little children who would run in the road.

“We told them not to go near the house. Today I tell them do not go there and less than three minutes later, I heard ‘bruggadung’,” Wilkinson said. (LK)
