THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH embraced CARIFESTA yesterday with a celebratory mass after which the congregation was treated to a cultural display that even saw a priest in flowing robes “getting down” with Mother Sally outside St Patrick’s Cathedral.

Bishop Jason Gordon, who delivered the sermon at the service, said the artistic genius that existed in the Caribbean should be used in praise of God.

“What a great responsibility we have also to take this artistic genius and give praise to God through it . . . and to showcase not just ourselves, but who God is and who God has formed us to be as a Caribbean people,” he said.

He added there was more creativity and art per square foot and per person in the Caribbean than many large countries could hope for. (LK)
