DERBY WINNERS Northern Star and Knight Rider will clash today in the feature five-horse Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders Association Breeders Sprint over 1 100 metres at the Garrison Savannah around 4:50 p.m.

This Grade III event in memory of Francis Cozier is race six on the seven-race card entitled Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders Association Raceday, the eighth day of the second season.

Northern Star, who was also the winner of this year’s Tanglewood Stakes, has not sprinted since his campaign as a two-year-old. He is now burdened with the same top impost weight as Knight Rider – 132 pounds. These two horses definitely have a class advantage but are expected to fight it out in the closing stages as sprinting is the forte of both.

Seeking win No. 4 in succession, Northern Star, who will move off from the inside draw, looks hard to oppose. Knight Rider has not been seen since the last Gold Cup Day, but his stable’s recent upsurge in form makes him a worthy opponent. (LY)
