NOT SO FAST, Catherine Jordan. Better yet, not so late.
Apparently the National Sports Council (NSC) was looking to assist Barbados’ World Championships team to London but the request only came in from Jordan’s Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) less than two weeks before the meet.
Interim chief executive officer Jerry Blenman finally cleared the air in a release sent to SUNSPORT after Jordan said the AAB got no funds from the NSC to attend the championships.
“In actual fact, the NSC contends that they met with the AAB earlier in the year and discussed their year programme and levels of finance required. The NSC further contended that based on the AAB’s submission and an evaluation of other sources of funding they the AAB had secured, that the council approved and disbursed $70 000 towards assistance with their annual programme,” wrote Blenman.
