‘Significant’ rally on anniversary of 1937 riots

THIS YEAR’S COMMEMORATION of the 1937 riots has been described as more significant than previous years, given the current state of affairs in the island.

President of the Clement Payne Movement, David Comissiong, said commemoration was probably even more significant than it has been in previous years because it was clear Barbados was in trouble, “Barbados has lost its way and in many ways the people of Barbados have lost confidence.”

Comissiong, speaking yesterday at a public rally themed What has become of the social revolution that the people of Barbados started in 1937 to mark the 80th anniversary of the 1937 riots, said Barbados in the last 14 years or so had very dysfunctional governments.

“I am saying the regime of the Democratic Labour Party but the last term of the Barbados Labour Party as well and especially over the last nine years the Barbadian people have been fed a constant diet of hopelessness of learned helplessness. . .  (LK)
