West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope has come in for high praise from the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) following a string of superb showings during the ongoing tour of India.
Hope has been in splendiferous form, scoring two ODI centuries and two T20I centuries, and has broken several records in the process.
His latest feat, an unbeaten 102 off 50 balls in the fourth T20I on Wednesday, carried the West Indies to a 24-run win over the hosts and leveled the five-match series at 2-2 heading into Saturday’s final match at Bengaluru.
In the process, the 32-year-old Barbadian wicketkeeper/batsman became the first West Indian to score three T20I centuries.
In a press release issued on Thursday, President of the BCA Calvin Hope said his recent accomplishments were a “source of immense pride for Barbados.”
“Shai’s remarkable performances, highlighted by his historic third T20 International century and his outstanding contribution to the West Indies’ victories over India in India, have further cemented his reputation as one of the leading batsmen in international cricket,” Hope said, while pointing out that those achievements were a testament to his exceptional talent, discipline, determination and unwavering commitment to excellence.
“Shai Hope continues to demonstrate that Barbadian cricket remains a powerful force on the international stage. His record-breaking performances are not only a personal triumph but also a proud moment for Barbados and the wider West Indies cricket family.
“He has demonstrated the ability to deliver under pressure, rise to the occasion against formidable opposition and lead by example, which speaks volumes about his character and quality as a cricketer. He has earned the respect and admiration of cricket lovers around the world, and we are delighted to see him receiving the recognition his performances deserve,” the president further added. (CMC)
