Eden Lodge Primary School cleared to reopen

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has given the green light for classes to resume today at Eden Lodge Primary School.

The school, which also accommodates students from Good Shepherd Primary, was closed since last week following complaints about an unidentified “chemical” smell.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Education Transformation said there were no abnormal results from the air quality tests conducted, but repairs were made to a cracked 4” duct pipe. Smoke tests were carried out to ensure the repair was adequately addressed, and that there were no breaches in the wells and grease traps.

On Tuesday, officials from the officials from both ministries, principals for both schools, the health and safety committee and representatives of the Barbados Union of Teachers conducted a walk-through to ensure all parties were satisfied with measures taken to safely reopen the school.

“Having met the satisfaction of all parties, the Ministry of Education Transformation looks forward to welcoming students, teachers and staff back to Eden Lodge, and thanks parents for their patience and understanding, as well as our stakeholders in education for their engagement and expertise in the matter,” the release said.

Additionally, areas beyond the school’s playing field that were identified as possible points of concern will continue to be monitored to ensure that the external activity bears no impact on the teachers and students, particularly during school hours. (PR/SAT)
