KENTOINE Browne, one of the top sprinters in Barbados, has not been given travel clearance to race at next week’s Pan American Junior Track And Field Championships in Peru.
That’s because Browne’s travel visa has been rejected by the United States Embassy.
Amateur Athletic of Barbados vice-president Noel Lynch confirmed yesterday that Browne will miss the trip.
“It is unfortunate that Browne will not be able to compete. I am not quite sure why he has not been cleared to travel,” he said.
The team, now reduced to seven, will be led by CARIFTA Games gold medallists Jonathan Jones and Aaron Worrell. Jones will race in the 800 metres, while the 19-year-old Worrell competes in the decathlon.
Much is also expected from CARIFTA Games silver medallist Jaquone Hoyte in the 100 metres hurdles, and bronze medallist Rivaldo Leacock in the 400 metres hurdles. Sprinter Tristan Evelyn, thrower Triston Gibbons and sprinter Matthew Clarke complete the team.
Lynch told SATURDAY SPORT: “This is a level way above the CARIFTA Games. This is going to be tough.”
