SUPPORT for the annual Poppy Appeal, a major fundraiser for army veterans, has fallen steadily, forcing the Barbados Legion to place more reliance on a grant from Government.
The state of the local appeal, an enduring symbol of remembrance of the World Wars, was revealed yesterday by chairman of the Legion Council, Vere Springer, after a church service at St Matthias Anglican Church to mark the council’s 60th anniversary.
He said that even though the number of elderly legionnaires linked to the global wars was continuing to drop because of deaths, financial support was still required. (LK)
