Comissiong calls for new laws on beach access

AN ATTORNEY AND SOCIAL ACTIVIST feels the laws relating to beach access need to be updated to prevent hoteliers from trying to privatise beaches.

David Comissiong was speaking in the wake of the erection of signs at Dover Beach, by Sandals Resorts Barbados, which warned that only registered hotel guests were allowed beyond a certain point of the beach. david-commisiong

“For Barbadians, access to and ownership of the beach is a very important matter. So why hasn’t Parliament stepped in with proper modern legislation to deal with this issue long time again?” he queried.

Comissiong said he feared that what has happened at Dover in Christ Church would also happen when the Hyatt was built in Bridgetown. (HLE)
