THE BARBADOS flag will not only be flown by the Bajan Gems at the Netball World Youth Cup in Gaborone, Botswana, July 8-16.
Marion Johnson-Hurley will also be representing the blue, yellow and black.
Johnson-Hurley, who previously represented Barbados in netball and basketball, heads off to Africa along with International Talent Identified umpires Joel Brown of Trinidad and Tobago, Tracy-Ann Griffiths of Jamaica and Wayne Benti of St Lucia, along with Jamaican Yvette Smith, who is a member of the International Umpires’ Award Testing panel.
In making the announcement, International Netball Federation (INF) officiating officer for the Americas, as well as president of the Barbados Association of Netball Umpires, Carmeta Doughlin, extended congratulations to the officials chosen from the region.
“Congratulations to all the Americas officials who have been appointed and I am really pleased that such quality, world-class umpires have been selected from this region and will be in action at the first international event held by the INF on the African continent.
“This is a great opportunity for our umpires and UAP and I wish all those involved well in undertaking their duties in Botswana,” said Doughlin. (KB)
