BARBADOS’ FOUR HIGH-RISE housing projects are extremely safe and built with the highest of security standards in place, says Minister of Housing and Lands Denis Kellman.

And the country’s Chief Fire Officer said there will be no compromise in the inspections being undertaken of those Government buildings to ensure required safety standards are in place.

Kellman said he had investigated the standards in Barbados, and to the best of his knowledge no problems with the safety features (alarms and sprinklers) in Government’s high-rise buildings have been identified.

He was speaking after last week’s fire at a high-rise complex in Grenfell, West London, England – which took the lives of more than 50 people with dozens missing. (BA)
