Glad times for Smokey

THE KINGDOM of the Super Gladiators can continue its boast of being a breeding ground for good calypso, though some of the offerings could easily be thrown to the lions.

Calypsonians coming up with a song and half still persist generally within the kaiso fraternity. That thesis was underscored when the Gladiators started their battle for calypso glory at the Roy Byer Centre in Waterford, St Michael, on Sunday night.

The tent did not lack for experience. Some acts have been around for years, with two of the better ones being Smokey Burke and Impact. (JS)
