Stolen takes it from Spartacus

SATURDAY’S FEATURE RACE at the Garrison Savannah provided a nostalgic finish on the Historic Bridgetown and Its Garrison Savannah Race-day as two veteran jockeys, Rickey Walcott and long-time rival Anderson Trotman, hooked up from the gates astride eventual winner Stolen and Spartacus.

Spartacus, who was victorious the previous time the pair met, found herself in the reverse position this time having to chase Stolen who went to the lead from the start. After surrendering a two-length advantage, Trotman then moved Spartacus alongside Stolen at the half-mile mark.

The pair cantered some soft fractions which included a three-quarter mile in 1:15.4, with Donicodidit and Princess Tiana trailing three lengths back.

An increase in pace heading for the home stretch saw Stolen and Spartacus charging at each other before the latter faded. (LY)
