Farley finishes 15th

BARBADIAN TERRY FARLEY finished in a commendable 15th place at the Americas Zonal Chess Championships in El Salvador.

The international master was in contention to secure a top ten position, but lost his ninth and final round game against the higher rated Costan Rican Sergio Duran when the championship concluded on Wednesday.

Farley finished the tournament with five points that were earned from victories over Alcira Garcia of El Salvador in the first round, Mejia Cardona of Honduras in the third round, Maximiliano Merino, of El Salvador, in the fifth round and Rene Pilarte on Nicaragua in the seventh round.

He also earned draws against Mauricio Hernandez of El Salvador in the fifth round and John Cifuentes of Colombia in the penultimate round. (HG)
