HENDERSON WARD, 62, of Indian Ground, St Peter is a sad man after losing his timber house to fire around 8:45 a.m. today.

Ward, who could not be located for comment when Nationnews visited the site of his home this afternoon, was described by a neighbour Caroline Best as a helpful individual.

She said that Ward, who lived alone, took the loss “very hard”.

“How would you feel, he was only left with the clothes on his back. He is crying, he hurt.”

She said the unemployed man never refused to help anyone who needed it.

Best said Ward told her he had just left home to go over the hill and returned to see his home in flames.

Two fire tenders carrying nine officers responded. One came from Arch Hall, St Thomas and the other from Bridgetown, under the direction of Station Officer Anthony King. (JS)
