FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT of the Barbados Entrepreneurship and Tourism Association (BETA), Neeraj Vensimal, has said that Airbnb properties operate at a higher standard than some hotels.

As he debunked recent suggestions from hoteliers who deemed the fledging sector a threat to the Barbados brand, Vensimal pointed out to the guest rating data on Airbnb and TripAdvisor to support his claim.

BETA is a non-profit group made up of more than 1 000 ordinary Barbadians, or as they are also referred “tourism entrepreneurs”, who rent their properties to tourists, contributing more than 1 100 “high quality” listings to the Barbados tourism product.

On Airbnb and TripAdvisor the BETA listings show an average rating of 4.7 versus 4.2 for the hotels, in both product and hospitality. (SDB Media)
