THE BARBADOS Secondary Teachers’ Union’s (BSTU) leadership has declared it will not be cowed, browbeaten or allow its back to be broken by threats from the Ministry of Education to dock their pay for taking part in last week’s March For Respect.
President Mary Redman yesterday urged her membership to stand firm in the face of criticism and threats. She called out Minister of Education Ronald Jones and demanded he show proof of those times when his pay was docked for striking as a member of the executive of the Barbados Union of Teachers.
“A day’s pay cannot faze us or scare us. And those threats will not deter us from doing what we are forced to do to demand respect and consideration like any other worker in Barbados. And we will fight the efforts to deduct our money,” she declared. (HLE)
