FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Deiandria Arthur-Brewster almost broke down in tears as she spoke of the ravages of youth violence.
“It doesn’t make sense . . . . I just want to get the message across that it has to stop,” she implored.
The fourth form student of the Coleridge & Parry School was one of the regional youth leaders gathered at UN House yesterday to discuss solutions to issues arising from youth violence in the Caribbean.
“It hurts because you lose a lot of family to violence and we really need to come together to do something about it. It has to end. It is not fun. I see people play-fighting just for fun but it turns in to real fights. Why [do] you want to hurt yourself just to fit in and to have fun? It doesn’t make sense. Just go to school, learn, don’t be in gangs, don’t have guns, don’t be shooting people all the time,” the impassioned teen urged. (WILLCOMM)
