MINISTER OF TRANSPORT and Works Michael Lashley has expressed condolences on behalf of the Ministry to the family and colleagues of Station Sergeant Clifford Sherlock Bridgeman who became the island’s latest road fatality last Sunday night.
Lashley also appealed to drivers to exercise greater caution on the road and to drive within the designated speed limit.
The Ministry is stepping up its road safety public service announcements on radio and television and urges road users to pay strict attention to the messages contained therein.
Road users are also encouraged to acquire a copy of the Barbados Highway Code which contains relevant information on road safety. Copies of the code are available at the Barbados Licensing Authority.
Once again road users, whether they are drivers, pedestrians or cyclists, are reminded to be vigilant on the road.
Some safety measures include slowing down, particularly when driving in heavily-pedestrianised areas, particularly schools, bringing the vehicle to a halt at stop signs and when traffic signals are on “red”, exercising care and caution when overtaking and buckling up and ensuring that children are suitably restrained to minimise injury in the event of a collision.
