THE NEWS THAT secondary school students will have cellphones in September is splitting the educational fraternity right down the middle.
President of the Barbados Association of Principals of Public Secondary Schools (BAPPS), Vere Parris, yesterday told the DAILY NATION the association had accepted the Mobile Technologies Use Policy for Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools in Barbados policy’s September start date.
However, there was little in terms of well wishes coming from Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) president Mary Redman, who rejected the implementation of the policy on the grounds that it would create a myriad of problems.
In a telephone interview yesterday, Parris said BAPPS had been involved in deliberations over the policy two years ago while it was still in its draft phase. (AD)
