GABRIEL BURNETT doesn’t want our sportsmen going through what he experienced.

The would-be track and field boss says he is running for the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) presidency because he doesn’t believe the AAB does enough to support the country’s athletes, especially the professional ones.

Burnett expressed the sentiment in an interview with SUNSPORT ahead of the sport’s much-awaited March 28 general elections.

“I had a lot of issues back when I was an athlete, with lack of communication and even being victimised, in my opinion, so naturally I am very protective of athletes because I am seeing some of the same things happening now,” said Burnett.
