More to qualify for free tuition

THE NUMBERS OF BARBADIAN students attending the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus may be back on its way up.

That’s because the threshold for which students can qualify for free tuition has been raised from $25 000 to $35  000 by Government.

It means now that hundreds of students who were previously ineligible for free tuition, will now be able to benefit.

The move comes after Principal of UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Eudine Barriteau, put forward a case to Education Minister Ronald Jones, that only a small number of students came from households which made $25,000 or less – the previous threshold for students to be eligible for free tuition.
