FLYING FISH & COU COU: Squaring up over ‘facts’

A MAN  has taken aim at a messenger rather than at those who cleverly pulled his strings.

Cou Cou has learnt that the man is threatening the star of local public discourse with legal action over statements made about him. He has reportedly taken offence at a certain woman’s comments, which suggested his version of the facts is not in keeping with what actually took place.

From what Cou Cou was told, the man has been protesting to whoever would listen.

However, some of the people who are aware of the particular incident in contention have told Cou Cou that they also don’t recall the events in the same manner as this man. Based on what they have said, what happened could not be construed as a move to make him persona non grata as he clearly perceives.

What seems to have this man so upset is that the woman, who sits on valuable real estate, sounded really sincere and believable. And he may be concerned that the audience might be swayed more by her tone than him given his tendency to be robust in speech.

Whether this one heads to the law courts is anyone’s guess. Most watchers, though, think it is a case of a bruised super ego seeking to save face.

Not taking no for an answer

People who attended a major event last weekend are still chattering about what happened to a certain big-up.

It would seem one of the key entities involved informed this man that his partner and assistant could not sit in the special area reserved for himself, given the smallness of the space. Their position was understandable because the privileged space is cramped in normal circumstances, far less when a significant event is on.

But the big-up, who is known for his persistence, decided the two had to be in arm’s length of him, even if they could not be in the same space. His solution was to get them accommodated in the booth next to the one he was in. As the barrier between the booths is low, the two sat on the same level that he was on in the corresponding booth, so anyone looking on would think they would have been sitting together.

Those who knew what went down could not help but admire this man’s quick thinking. They all said that he clearly doesn’t make sport.

Time will tell

Are certain developments taking place in the political arena motivated by patriotism, or is it a strategy to create more voter apathy to diminish participation and severely divide those opposed to the status quo?

This question was being discussed at a popular watering hole this week between average citizens and operatives from the two main political parties.

The opposition operatives swore they are seeing a strategy at work, given what has been occurring to date. Though they did not criticise the characters coming out to offer themselves for service, they said it could not be coincidence that most of these people are known to be vehemently opposed to their leader.

They noted too that at the same time both parties were being cast as being no different. This, they argued, was an attempt to further demotivate voters by sending a subliminal message that “it was better to stay with the devil you know than the one you don’t”.

The ruling party’s operatives, on the other hand, contended that people were just unsure of the opposition and were exercising that right.

We shall see.
