Coping with menopause

WOMEN NEED NOT suffer through menopause in silence.

Gynaecologist Dr Sandra Bynoe is on a mission to get women to speak out about what is happening to them and their bodies by seeking help.

“Women need to be more open about their symptoms. They need to stop suffering in silence. There are simple things that we can help with, without having to prescribe hormone replacement therapy; something as simple as vagina moisturisers, which will help with painful sex.

But we cannot prescribe these things if women do not come forward and talk about their symptoms. We need to educate women about little known symptoms of menopause, such as itchiness and crawliness under their skin that they sometimes have, that they might misunderstand. We need to educate women that they don’t have to suffer with heavy menstrual bleeding associated with the peri-menopausal time,” she said. (YB)
