ALMOST TWO YEARS after the body of 12-year-old Shemar Weekes was found hanging in the backyard, the case still remains open.
Director of Public Prosecutions Charles Leacock QC told the DAILY NATION the case file was still with the police after he ruled that no one would be charged in the matter.
Leacock gave this update after speaking at a Rotary Club of Barbados South weekly lunchtime meeting held yesterday at Accra Beach Hotel.
“I’ve ruled so far that based on what is there, I can’t charge anyone,” he said.
“I’ve told [the police] to keep the file open because what is on the file I can’t really charge anybody,” the DPP added.
Weekes’ body was discovered on May 14, 2015, and since the discovery, the matter has been investigated by the police followed by a coroner’s inquest and then the DPP’s office. (AD)
