PEOPLE IN AND AROUND Bridgetown were all seeing red today as members of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) embarked on its Rub Shoulders with the People of the City initiative.
The door-to-door walkthrough was led by the party’s leader Mia Mottley and several other teams made up of other BLP members Cynthia Forde, Jerome Walcott, Santia Bradshaw and representative for the City of Bridgetown constituency, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.
The participants, who were all dressed in red t-shirts, said many of the issues highlighted by City residents included poor housing, sewage problems and unemployment.
During a stop at Kensington Lodge, Mottley said the party had stepped up its engagement with residents.
“For me this is very discomforting and heart wrenching. There are young people who have never worked – and some who have not acquired skills since leaving school. They want to go but they do not have the money.
“We have intensified our dialogue with the people because we sense they need a reassuring voice; something and someone to believe in again. The disgusting, indifferent attitude to problems by this government has left many, indeed the majority of Barbadians exasperated and shaking their heads,” Mottley said. (TSG)
