POOR LIGHTING CONTINUES to pose a major headache for City users, says Barbados Labour Party Member of Parliament Cynthia Forde.
While giving her support to the Crown Lands (Vesting and Disposal) Act tabled in the House yesterday, the St Thomas MP pleaded with Government to improve the deficiencies.
Forde suggested that not only would better lighting be safer for those shuttling through Bridgetown, but it could also possibly improve nightlife.
“If we want our visitors to come out at night and be a part of the entertainment and enjoyment of what is taking place. And our locals as well because we have thousands of people who commute [through] The City, many of them walking from one bus stand to the other, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to other locations, leaving Pelican Village and Fontabelle and other locations. But there are so many places where there is no lighting and we know how dangerous that can be and therefore that is what I would like to put forward today on what we are discussing here,” she said.
Reiterating her point, Forde warned of foreseeable dangers.
“We recognise what is happening across the world when it comes to some lawless people who seem to think that they can choke and rob, and do all the strange things that we see happening in some countries we do not want Barbados to be going down that road at all.”
On another note, Forde discussed what she deemed as the poor conditions in which some City residents live. She called for their housing to be upgraded.
“I am pleading to this Government to put another system in place so that poor people would not remain poor,” she implored. (SDB Media)
