GOVERNMENT WILL BE “clamping down” on “injudicious” sick leave.
Minister of Labour and Social Security Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo gave notice of this intention Wednesday as the Senate approved an amended Holidays With Pay Act.
In response, however, Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) president Cedric Murrell said the Government had not communicated concerns about sick leave to that umbrella body.
Noting that the changed legislation now allowed for increased flexibility with holiday leave, Byer Suckoo said: “We will be clamping down on sick leave. This injudicious use of sick leave we will be clamping down on it, those are things that we have to do. (SC)
