WHEN MEMBERS of the Salvation Army gathered at their church in Speightstown, St Peter, to ring in 2017 last Saturday night, their joy of service and thanksgiving was interrupted by another kind of ringing: loud music coming from nearby bars, which were equally hyped to welcome the new year.
Lieutenant Colonel Clinton Burrowes of the Army told the DAILY NATION the noise was coming from De Lytes Sports Bar located just about 40 feet away on Church Street.
He said he made several attempts during the two-hour service to have the music lowered, but to no avail.
“Before our service, I went to the lady running the shop and told her we are going to have the service at 10 p.m. and we would like you to turn off the music because it is disturbing us, but she did nothing,” he said, adding that he was chased away a second time when he went to complain. (TSG)
